About the Team

20+ years of CNC, design, and toolmaking behind every part.

The Apex Outpost Team

Apex Outpost LLC provides additive manufacturing services from a working shop in Central Ohio.

The team brings 20+ years of CNC, design, and toolmaking and 15 years in additive manufacturing to every project.

That background shapes the work. Decades around production tooling mean parts are designed with the same concerns that decide whether a part fits, functions, and repeats — tolerances, material behavior, and tooling.

Before anything goes on a printer, the part gets a design-for-manufacturability (DFM) review: checking the geometry for how it will actually be made, and holding the finished part to a fit, function, and repeatability standard.

Material selection follows what the part needs — FDM when strength and rugged function matter, resin (MSLA) when fine detail and surface finish matter. The work spans jigs, fixtures, functional prototypes, small-batch parts, and tooling, for machine shops, medical device companies, and product developers.

FDM

FDM (fused deposition modeling) prints parts by laying down thermoplastic filament layer by layer — a strong, durable process for functional work. It is well suited to jigs, fixtures, tooling, and small-batch production parts: parts that need to handle real loads and hold up on the shop floor. In this shop, FDM is the default for rugged functional prototypes and the workpieces that support them.

Resin (MSLA)

Resin (MSLA) printing cures liquid resin layer by layer with a laser, producing parts with fine detail and a smooth surface finish. It is the process of choice for functional prototypes where tight features and fine surface finish matter, and for small-batch parts that need to look and fit like the final product. In this shop, resin work covers detailed functional prototypes and small-batch parts with fine features.

SLS coming soon

SLS (selective laser sintering) is on the roadmap — coming soon. When it is in place, it will add a process for parts that need sintered-material strength without support structures, expanding what the shop can make for functional prototypes and small-batch work. Ask about SLS availability for your project, and we will tell you where things stand.

Fiber Laser Marking

A 30W fiber laser marks metal and select plastics — part numbers, serials, barcodes, logos, and data-matrix codes that hold up on the shop floor. It is well suited to durable identification on machined parts, tooling, and fixtures, and to small-batch marking where each part needs to be traceable. In this shop, laser marking covers permanent part identification and branding across metal and plastic workpieces.

Who It's For

From one-off fixtures to functional prototypes and small-batch production parts.

Machine Shops

Custom jigs, fixtures, and printed tooling built around your workpiece, so setups stay repeatable. Small-batch additive manufacturing parts keep the floor moving without a full production run.

Medical Device Companies

Functional prototypes and small-batch parts for development and validation work — additive manufacturing for medical devices, from early concepts through fit checks and design iteration.

Automotive / Aerospace / Defense Suppliers

Functional prototypes, fit checks, and small-batch parts that keep programs moving while tooling is in the works — additive manufacturing for automotive and aerospace suppliers.

Architecture & Design Firms

Detailed resin models and functional prototypes with fine surface finish, so a concept can be seen, held, and tested before anything is committed to production.

Product Developers

Iterate fast with functional prototypes from first concept to near-final form, then move to small-batch parts when the design is ready to prove itself.

The common thread: parts that need to fit, function, and repeat — from prototype to small batch.
